great on this monday. we have areas of overnight road work in fremont. we'll show you where coming up. >> good morning. it's monday april 29th. i'm michelle griego. >> good morning, everyone. it is 5:01. i'm frank mallicoat. a man hunt is on for a child killer up in the sierra foothills. >> an 8 year old girl was stabbed in her home. cate is in the news room with more on what investigators are looking for. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. investigators will be conducting an autopsy on the young girl today as they continue the search for the suspect in this tragic case. 8 year old layla fowler was found stabbed saturday afternoon. her 12-year-old brother told police he was coming home to check on her when he saw an intruder leaving. when he got inside he saw his sister wounded. she later died at the hospital. investigators say they have a

substantial amount of evidence including fingerprints and dna. >> subject was described as a white or hispanic male adult. the age was not clear. however the clothing described was blue jeans and black or dark shirt. >> at this point the young boy is not being ruled out as a suspect. however, two other witnesses say they spotted a man wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt. that's the same description the boy gave to police. police say there will be added patrols for schools and bus stops in that area as a safety precaution. kpix 5. >> cate, thank you. there will be a vigil scheduled for young layla tomorrow night. >> an off duty police officer was attacked over the weekend. happened yesterday near a night club. police have not released many details but say the off-duty officer is from berkeley.

rebels, i think it could turn the tide of battle pretty quickly. >> the obama administration says it's working to pin down proof the serian government has used chemical weapons. tears broke out in bangladesh among word commandos -- 380 people were killed on wednesday when the 8 story building went tumbling down. authorities say it was built illegally because the permit only allowed for five floors. rescuers are giving up hope they will find any more survivors. >> federal investigators do not think the boston marathon bombing was part of a larger terrorist thought. the chairman of the house homeland security committee tells fox news the type of explosives suggests to him someone else trained the bombers. investigators are checking the suspect's mother now. russia intercepted phone

about the top concerns. >> reporter: good morning. what we're talking about is assembly bill 716 which allows agencies to ban repeat offenders. it was passed back in 2011 and went in affect of january last year. doesn't actually start until this week because employees have been transitioning in a four phase process. just finishing up training. the goal is to create a cleaner safer part environment for riders and workers. the station agent has been pushing for safer conditions. today the bart board of director's president will talk more about the crack down in a news conference. looking to making changes to the doors and every bart police officer will get a portable video camera to document interactions with unrulely passengers. this is what could get a person banned. defacing property or urinating in public. a person must be

cited three times in 90 days. a more serious official like assault. bart police have increased their presence following the boston marathon bombings. a person who does receive the stay away order can request an administrative hearing. live in san francisco elissa. >> out pour in california sacramento and fresno have prohibition order laws. both report a decrease in crime at their transit station. >> 5:09. another safety controversy invoe ing the bolts on the bay bridge. more than 1200 bolts are made from galvanized steal. the reason that type of steal could potentially crack overtime. this news comes just weeks after inspectors discovered 32 other steal bolts that have already

again. this is the 13th time erupted this year. the last few days ash and puff into the air. pretty spectacular. the largest volcano in europe is causing explosions. the eruption is similar to the previous ones. but this time a lot more lava and cool pics. >> let's check the roads with elizabeth. how's it looking out there? >> starting to get a little worse. if you are traveling through the pittsburgh bay, it's causing pretty big delays for this time of the morning. it is a roll over crash. possible injuries. so the exact location is up in the air. we think it's close to that road exit. a car was swerving to avoid a ladder and any kind of debris in the road can be dangerous. a car tried to swerve to avoid it and rolled over and the driver may

be injured. crews are heading to the scene or likely already there. they are blocking one lane. chp requested a traffic alert. at least one lane may be blocked for a while. we're not sure how long that means but in the meantime expect delays on highway 4. also going to see overnight road work until 6:00 this morning. that's the latest word from cal trans. fremont northbound 680 between south mission and north mission exit. again, maybe minor delays. sensors are starting to turn yellow. bart is all on time. let's go outside and show you live traffic cameras. so far no delays coming into san francisco. pretty easy commute. san mateo bridge. this camera is past the pay gate. everything looks good out over

the high rise. and show you one more look. 101 northbound and southbound looking good through santa clara. that's a check of your time saver traffic. things are getting hot in the weather department. >> thank you so much, liz. things are heading up . hotter toward the afternoon. some of these numbers soaring up into the low 90s. starting out with a mostly clear morning and temperatures running into the 40s and 50s. near 60 in warmer spots. by the afternoon though the temperatures getting on the hot side. inland in the upper 80s low 90s. plenty of 80s inside the bay. and those highs under sunny skies running up into the 60s. all thanks to this high pressure building in overhead. weak system that will drop in tuesday but for today, lots of sunshine and going to be

warmer as we head in toward the afternoon. getting hot inland. these numbers outside running up to 85 in san jose. 67 in half-moon bay. and 82 in union city. up into the 90s in many spots. 93 in livermore. 84 in vallejo. 75 and beautiful in san francisco. and 82 degrees in petaluma. what a night to check out the a's. if you are heading to the ballpark tonight about 69 degrees against the angels. clear and mild for the game. great time to check out oakland a's. temperatures are going to be on the hot side especially inland. tomorrow the winds are going to kick up. by wednesday, we start to warm things back up again. by friday, maybe mid 90s. we are looking at the hottest week of the year so far. a lot of folks

springs. cate is in the news room with the evidence investigators are looking at. >> good morning. we are on day 3 for the search of a suspect. this morning police say parents and kids can expect to see extra patrols. the tragic loss of layla fowler has launched an extensive investigation. the young girl was found stabbed in her valley spring home. her 12-year-old brother told police he went home to check on his sister. as he entered, he saw an intruder run out. they are continuing to follow up on leads and collected a significant amount of evidence that could lead to clues to catch the killer. >> we did collect fingerprints and collected what we believe to be dna. >> today the sheriff's office say investigators will conduct an autopsy. the young girl was only one month away from her 9th birthday. there will be a

man is in stable condition. no suspects and month motive. jury selection begins today of the trial of an alleged serial killer. accused of killing four women between the years 1977 to 1994. his trial has already been postponed twice because he is representing himself. if convicted, he could face the death penalty. >> keeping trouble off the trains. this morning bart is expected to announce new safety measures to crack down. elissa is in san francisco with the changes that help protect passengers and station agents. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the crack down is expected to go into full affect in may this week. the goal is to keep repeat and violent offenders of off of trains. a rider could get banned for 30 days to one

about to take another step. toward becoming the tallest

ng in the western one world trade center is about to take another step toward becoming the tallest building in the hemisphere. construction crews will begin installing the final two sections. you can see a live look at the building right now. that's going to put the building's height at 1776 feet. it is scheduled to open for business next year at the northwest corner of the site of the fallen twin towers. hope the stock market will pick up the pace this week. on friday, stocks were mixed after the economy grew. the dow rose 12. the nasdaq lost under 11. >> unemployment benefits will female the affects of budget cuts today. being reduced by 18%. apply only to federal benefits which kick in after

someone used 26 weeks of state benefits. reduce the maximum weekly benefit of $450 by about $79. coast guard here in the bay area says those same cuts forced it to suspend controls of the terror targets and the golden bay bridge. crews are concentrating on the search and rescue mission. spokes person says they will still maintain vigilance. has several agencies including highway patrol that keep an eye on it. good news if you are flying today. the air traffic control system should be back to normal following a few weeks of delays. the furloughs is over. congress passed legislation allowing the faa to transfer millions of dollars returning the number of controllers to full strength. >> in a number of bay area counties. putting the ban to reduce the risk of large fires. the agency says it's important
